Learning Experiences for Learner-Centered Educators

At Embark Education, our work is grounded in crafting learner-centered experiences like Embark, the school, and Iterative Space, the educator residency program. These learner centered spaces – for youth and adults – are designed intentionally to be rooted in the ideas of radical trust, fostering relationships, and thoughtfully creating environments where humans have the time, space, and support to flourish. In creating these spaces, our intention is for each person, regardless of their age, to be able to tap deep into the knowledge, experiences, and perspectives that each of us hold within ourselves that, when harnessed, can effect change at systemic levels.

We are excited to have these strands for educators to loosely follow, but more importantly we want to bring talented, engaged educators together to share and stoke each others’ passions while learning together. Each of us will be able to take tangible change back to our schools and communities.

What do we mean by “learner-centered”?

We are honored to build on the work of others committed to building learner-centered communities. We’ve worked closely with and learned from organizations like Education Reimagined, The Learner-Centered Collaborative, Transcend, and The Canopy Project, among others. None of us can do this work alone and others have done the incredibly hard work of defining what a learner-centered environment can and should be. At Embark we are not recreating the wheel; we know you have already done the learning and we are excited to support bringing it to life.

What is unique about Embark is that we are not teaching you what it means to be learner-centered: that learning already lives inside of you. Our work is to share, inspire, and connect with what we believe underlies those practices – radical trust, relationships, and mindsets. We support educators in that journey by gathering them to learn together, inspire each other, wayfind, and curate learner-centered environments in your communities.

Iterative Space Residency

Iterative Space offers a five-week residency where educators can build on their ideas, passions, and sparks in proximity to others doing the same. Built on radical trust, we deeply believe that educators hold brilliance within themselves and need the time, space and resources to surface it. When that brilliance can shine, classrooms, schools, and communities will forever shift –learners will be empowered, voices will be heard, lives will change.
